AWESOME VIDEO: This 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350R

We live in a wonderful world today. A world where anyone with the available funds can walk into a Ford dealership and buy the $65,000 Mustang Shelby GT350R , and then go straight to the track and hold their own against far more expensive Porsche 911 Turbos.

Lots of power and handling capabilities for the money are just some of the things the Mustang has become known for, but sometimes someone comes along who thinks they can do better.

Meet the 1966 CorteX Mustang, a car that’s been owned by one man’s family for more than 50 years. In fact, it was his mom’s daily driver for some time, but he ultimately had other plans for it. Today, it doesn’t look all that much like it once did, and that’s a good thing.

Yes, it does retain many classic Mustang design cues, but engineering wise it’s all new and modern. And as Mike Musto learned in this latest episode of House of Muscle, what’s lying under the hood is what many Mustang faithful would consider sacrilegious: a GM-built LS7 V8. Why is it there? Because, engineering wise, it was the best engine out there (in 2006) that also met the car’s needs. Fair enough. But compared to today’s Mustang Shelby GT350R, this ’66 CorteX Mustang, for lack of a better word, dominates. And yes, it’s also street legal. This 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350RThis 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350RThis 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350RThis 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350RThis 1966 Mustang Can Destroy A Modern Shelby GT350R
